#Sloth Life

Sabbatical officially started on Jan. 1! It took me several days to wrap everything up; organize the books and documents I brought home, clean out the inbox, send of a thousand or so final emails (sorry everybody!). Everyone (well, okay, my husband Paul) said I'd have a hard time slowing down, but it's been easier than I expected. I've been checking in with friends who haven't heard from me in forever, and working my way through the endless household to do list. Also testing out our new Instantpot. I know something that cooks super fast doesn't seem to go with slowing down, but there's no way I would have taken the time to actually figure this thing out without a slower schedule. So far, our favorite recipe is rice!

And then, of course, I got sick. Just a chest cold, but three days without sleep had me pretty spacey. But there was no complaining (well, not much) because I could make the time to rest and get better. What a luxury.

This whole sabbatical is a luxury. I wish we lived in a world where everyone could step away from their routine tasks to go deeper, reflect on a passion, learn something new, spend more time with family. I know we don't live in that world yet. But I'm so grateful for the sabbatical my congregation has made possible. I will embrace it fully and joyfully.
